Highlights from the Annual Conference in St. John’s

Fortune Favours the Bold!

If there’s one thing we learned at this year’s Annual Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland, it’s that fortune really does favor the bold—and by bold, we mean independent marketing agencies that traveled from coast to coast to join us from June 11 to 14, 2024.

Picture This: Perfect Weather, Perfect Company

Believe it or not, the weather was tailor-made for our gathering: 100% sunshine, 0% rain. Seriously, we’re considering starting a weather service after that experience! The bright skies mirrored the radiant energy of the 20 indie agencies in attendance. Talk about a crew that knows how to bring the heat (and we’re not just talking about the fish & chips).

Engaging Sessions & Networking Shenanigans

Our conference wasn’t just an excuse to enjoy great food (though, let’s be real, that was a major perk). We dove into engaging sessions led by professional speakers who didn’t just share knowledge; they made us think, laugh, and occasionally reconsider some practices we take on a daily basis at our agencies. The networking opportunities were abundant, fostering camaraderie that felt less like business and more like a family reunion—didn’t the matching pjs from Frank and Maurice make you feel at home?

Puffins & Whales: An Unforgettable Experience

And speaking of thrilling experiences, who could forget the chance to see unique puffins up close? We even got lucky with a surprise appearance from a mama whale and her baby—we’re pretty sure they were just there to crash the Conference.

A Round of Applause for Our Host

A huge shoutout to our brilliant host, Jenny Smith, President of Ray Agency. Jenny and her dedicated team took care of every detail, ensuring the event was not just organized, but downright delightful. If there were an award for conference planning, Jenny would have taken home the gold, a lifetime supply of cannabis gummy bears, and possibly a pet puffin (not that we’re advocating for wildlife ownership).

The Next Stop: Victoria, BC

As we packed up and said our goodbyes, we couldn’t help but feel excited about next year’s event in beautiful Victoria, BC. Get ready for another round of brilliance, as we’ll be hosted by none other than former tCAN Chair, Dan Dagg, President of H2 Accelerator. Can’t wait to see what Dan has up his sleeve… (suspense drum rolls please).

Hung Out to Dry

8 January 2025 | Claudia Romero-Dneprovski from Ray Agency

Hung Out to Dry. With our healthcare system in crisis, Newfoundland and Labrador Registered Nurses (RN) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) were unsafe, underpaid, and walking away from the profession. At a critical time in the collective bargaining process, the Registered Nurses’ Union (RNU) needed the right kind of attention. We set up an attention-getting attraction […]
